Vintage Paper Doll Birthday Party

While busy pinning away on Pinterest, I found this adorable vintage paper doll birthday party that I want to share. No details were left out of this sweet, girly, pink, and fun party. Larissa of Sweet On Parties styled this oh so lovely party!  The little birthday girl Audrey loves paper dolls so vintage Betsey McCall Dolls were used for the inspiration behind this party.

Be sure to grab a cup of tea, sit back and enjoy all of the sweet details of this party.

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Larissa

Our little Audrey is quite a doll and she is quite smitten with paper dolls and all things pretty so l knew creating a Vintage Paper Doll Party for her 4th Birthday would be perfect!  I wanted to create a party that was pretty but fun and fell in love with the vintage images of Betsy McCall.  I had Diletta from Todi Design Boutique create some very pretty 1950′s inspired printables in a color palette of powder blue, candy pink and a touch of beige.

I created a 1950′s kitchenette for the backdrop of this party to feature her lovely kitchen which she adores playing with.  The party was held under our pergola and my husband and l constructed a wall out of packing sheets for the background and l painted it in Wattyl Raspberry Whip.  We then hung up white picture frames to look like windows and made little curtains to complete the look.  I had some pink and white vinyl wallpaper l found at my grandma’s house and used that on the floor for 1950′s lino.  I used the same pretty patchwork curtain material for the dessert table backdrop and the party table.   I had found some lovely powder blue lace tin ware from target and wanted to feature these on the dessert table along with a 1950′s dolls wardrobe which l painted white and hung little Betsy Dresses on wooden hangers to form a garland.  I hung some white eyelet lace paper lanterns to suspend over the dessert table, and then used the cupcake towers and wrappers from the Martha Stewart’s Doily range.  I wanted the table to be white so l covered it with a white lace doily tablecloth and then some ruffle and lace white fabric which l gathered at the ends with some powder blue ribbons and hung a pennant polka dot bunting across the front of the table.  I also created a welcome sign near the drinks station using an old 1950′s picture frame and hung a Betsy bunting over the little shelf.

I wanted the desserts to be pink and white and made vanilla bean cookies with flooded patterns topped with pink sixlets, pink and white chocolate cherry cake pops, rosewater cupcakes with marshmallow frosting, mini blueberry cheesecakes topped with marshmallow hearts, lemon slice with fondant blossoms and a giant chocolate and raspberry buttercream cupcake with rose swirls, fondant flowers and fondant pearls.  I also bought some mini meringues in pastel shades and put these in gold footed crystal dessert bowls.

A drinks station was set up under the other faux window with tutti frutti punch, milk, lemon lime and bitters, sparkling wine, water and flavoured drinking straws on offer for the party guests.

I bought some white lace paper bon bon boxes and filled these with mini musks and attached a helium balloon as party favours for the guests.  For the tableware l had some plain plastic ware left over from Christmas which l wanted to use up.  For the plates l used a punch hole and then threaded pink and blue ribbon and tied it with a bow.  The clear cups were rather flimsy so l decided to double them and put a paper doily inside with a Betsy dress image and then secured them by attaching some pink or blue ribbon around the top of the cup.  I bought some roses, field carnations and baby’s breath and filled some tall glass jars with posies attached with some natural eyelet lace and a scallop punch topper.

The children played many vintage games such as musical statues, pass the parcel, panic post, pin the tail on the donkey and the finale was a pinata. I decorated a plain pinata with blue and white paper rosettes and ruffles inspired by Audrey’s party dress and then made some little bags decorated with white paper doilies and a Betsy image or scallop punch topper for the children to collect their goodies in.

Bella Bella Studios’ Fabulous Friday Favorites… Shop Sweet Lu Lu

As you know, it’s Friday! Yay, Yay, Yay! Well in celebration of the upcoming weekend, I am celebrating here at Bella Bella Studios by sharing one of my Fabulous Friday Favorites with you!

This weeks Fabulous Friday Favorite is a sweet little shop called Shop Sweet Lu Lu. I first found this shop on Etsy and then discovered their website. This is how they describe their little shop stocked full of Big Surprises, “From striped paper straws to huge round balloons, we’re thrilled to offer the very best selection of party styling essentials and pretty party goods from all over the world!”

I have really enjoyed browsing through this shop and finding some really sweet items. Click on any of the photos to be taken to Shop Sweet Lu Lu.

This lovely little shop is owned by Jessie a Mommy of 2. Here is what she has to say about herself and her sweet little shop:

Hi friends, welcome to my magical world of confetti and polka dots!

Shop Sweet Lulu is a little company I started in the summer of 2010.  Named after my daughter Olivia (Lulu London),  the shop simply carries things that make a party pretty; Things that are so lovely or charming or sweet that they make me squeal when I discover them.

It seemed right to name my company after my daughter, since she was the reason I delved into party planning ten years ago, for her first birthday.  I took months of cake decorating classes to make her the perfect Pink Ruffle Cake, armed with a photo torn out of the pages of Martha Stewart Baby magazine (I still possess every issue ever published!), and a chocolate panache cake for the guests.  I designed and created the party invitations, the party favors, a crazy candy centerpiece, made the food, and sewed Olivia a party dress out of Thai silk – without a pattern.  I knew I had found my calling as a party planner!

Since then, my life has been a whirl of crafting, hosting elaborate birthday parties, lots of sewing and collecting vintage everything (especially fabric), obsessing over polka dots and photo shoots (as both stylist and photographer), and dabbling in graphic design.

In essence, all of my experience, my skills, and my passions converged to create the perfect storm when I set up shop.  I feel so lucky because I get to do something I love every single day: sourcing new products, styling photo shoots, or packing up orders.  I’m lucky enough to have a small staff that helps me out now, too.  And of course, a supportive husband who helps assemble boxes in the warehouse and makes frequent trips to UPS for me.

On weekends, I hang out with my husband, my kids (Olivia was joined by a brother, Jack, in 2002), and our dogs Gracie and Lola.  I drink super strong coffee, practice yoga, listen to indie folk music,  drink wine with friends,  and try to steal moments with my sewing machine.

Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit.  I’m so glad you’re here.

~Jessie Senese

Bubble Gum Bubble Gum In a Dish… How many Valentine’s Do You Wish?

Bubble Gum Inspiration!

A fun new printable design by Bella Bella Studios!

Valentine’s Day Favor Tags that are now available in my Etsy Shop!

My kids love bubble gum! Of course, I love them too but mainly because of the fun array of colors they come in. I designed a set of diy printable for boys and one for girls. With school classmates in mind, I wanted to accommodate the girls with “bubbly pink” gum ball machines and coordinating bubble gum and patterns. Deciding not to torture the boys with pink… I created “bubbly blue” just for the boys also with coordinating colors and patterns!

These tags are perfect for cellophane treat bags filled with goodies or trinkets. Each favor tag has its own saying on it that is a play on bubble gum.

These tags also fit nicely on dime store pre-packaged trinkets.
